Need bin help

I'm sure this isn't the way I'm supposed to do this, but I'm really lost! I just finished installing a HSR intake with a CC 224/230 cam and I'm looking for a bin file that someone may have used with a similar setup. The car is a 1991 Z28 with a L98 and 700R4 if that matters. I really have no clue what I'm doing with all this DIY PROM stuff, but the guy that's helping me told me I should have this as a good starting point. Anyone have this file, or know where I can find it? So far, the only luck I've had was finding the stock bin file. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

Is there any chance you are begging for a bin?

Best starting point is a stock GM bin that matches whether the vehicle is an auto or stick. My suggestion is to use the one that you have found.

I'm not begging for anything, just asking for help. To be honest, I don't even know what a bin file is. The file I found and downloaded is for my stock setup, but I can't open it on my computer to even see what I'l looking at. I just thought someone here would be able to help me out a little. Sorry if I knocked on the wrong door...

Go to Craig Moates site.
Go to the "uploaded" section.

There's a lot of them there. Find one that pretty much matches your engine setup OR more appropiately, find the stock one for your stock engine to use as a baseline and modify it from there.

You WILL need an EPROM BURNER and TUNERCATS and something like Datamaster or TunerPro or one of Craig's programs to log data with.

Getting a BIN file is a very small part of the overall DIY PROM process.
Learning curve is pretty steep to start with but you can do it.

AS Grumpy would say, with whatever BIN file you decide to use initially, "Obtain Adult Supervision".

Come back here with a specific question and there's a LOT of VERY Knowledgeable folks that will help you.

Edit: BTW,a 'BIN" is a "BINARY" file with code that your ECM understands.
Most of a binary file is in 'NON-HUMAN' readable format.
It contains a lot of 'extended' ASCII characters.
That's why you can't just open it up and edit it with any old text editor.

Edit again: Read ALL/EVERYONE/EVERYTHING contained in the first 'sticky' post in this section of this forum.
Read all that stuff about 20 times. Maybe 25. Wait a few days and read it ALL again.

This forum IS THE 'heavy duty' place to learn about all this stuff.

Good luck.

OK, no bin begging is good. I also better understand the situation. To get a leg up on your friend read the info at this link:

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml

It may be confusing at first. However, once you see what your helper is doing it will make more sense (as long as he knows what he is doing).

No normal file utility will allow you to see what is in the bin. With a bin editor (TunerPro, TunerCat, Promedit, WinBin) the non-sensible bin file becomes something that can be understood and modified.

The 'modified' part is the key. As the bin file contains not only the software then ECM runs, but the calibration tables for that particular vehicle. The cal parameters ar what you & your friend will be adjusting.

Also, don't forget to check out the link pointers VetNutJim provided.

There's for the help guys! I have a lot of reading to do I see. Well currently I have the EPROM Pocket Programer and software. My friend helping me has both Tunercat and Datalog, and I already purchesed the definition file for my car. I also found and downloaded the bin file that I found for my stock setup. I was unable to look at the "upload" section on Craig's site because the page wouldn't open, but I'll check back from time to time. I think I may have everything I need to get started, but I'm sure I'll be back with more questions! Thanks again for the help!!!
