Which ECM/PCM to choose?

I started my project a couple of years ago with an '8746 (from a TBI Firebird), which I then swapped out for a '7747 because it was so well documented. I've learned a little bit about PROM tuning, and I was happy with what I had ... until today, after playing with a '7730 a buddy of mine has on a Datsun Z conversion with a '92 TPI out of an F-body. We got to do a little datalogging with ALDLMON, and I was just astounded: it was quick quick quick, there was stuff like timing advance and AFR and, oh gee, just all kinds of good things. Driving home, I started wondering: If I could pick any ECM/PCM in the junkyard, which should I choose? There are a lot to choose from, and I'd like to keep as many of my sensors as possible. Suggestions?

I like the "727" counterpart to the '730'.

It's the 'WeatherPack' version that goes under the hood or anyplace you'd like to put it.

It is equivavlent to the 730. Same MemCal and tuning instructions and data output.

A lot of folks here use the 730, however, for their speed density installations..

While it would be experimential, the 1227749 can fire the TBI injectors, and you could run the same 8D code as your friends Z. The experimential part is the Port system uses a different firing strategy then the TBI. ie it fires the injectors half as often so the atomizaton would be slightly less. I'd try it one time, but ran out of time to do alot, since it was just a friends car. The real problem for what I was doing was not knowing the injector constant in the 58 code didn't work.

Or, you could keep what you have and wait for this:Speedreader

I'm thinking about grabbing one for my S-10, but it's all gonna depend on timing, as I'm getting close to putting the Vortec powertrain into it.
