Dynojet Wide Band Commander (?)
Dynojet Wide Band Commander (?)
Just for the heck of it, I contacted Dynojet about their receptiveness to a group purchase on these:
http://www.widebandcommander.com/
They list for $529.95 on the web site (ouch!) but this does include free lifetime software/firmware updates via website download. They have a nice FAQ section on the website - check it out.
They responded that group purchases are welcome, with the following pricing structure:
5 units - $424 ea.
10 units - $403 ea.
25 units - $383 ea.
50 units - $363 ea.
100 units - $345 ea.
Looks like a really nice and complete kit, mostly useful to those of us running off the computer but with a large enough group purchase I think it is a viable option for many people here. If we could get 25+ people interested then I would consider this one myself. I would like to hear from anyone that has direct experience with these units - I know Dynojet has a good corporate reputation.

I agree - the one-off and low quantity prices are ridiculous. However, compared to the LM-1 from Innovate, the prices are not really out of line in quantities of 25 or more if you look at everything that is included with the package. The Zeitronix unit I've heard about runs in the same price range with the LCD display. Granted, the Wide Band Commander does not have an LCD display but I like the analog style gauge, and you can easily hook up a laptop. I also like the free downloadable software & firmware updates, the programmable outputs, and the software package which looks very user friendly.
I would really like to hear from someone that has tried this system.....

I really like that analog style gauge, even a 10 units I don't think its that bad.

Why not get one and report back to us?. Others have bought the LM-1, and reported good to great results with them.
if you buy enough of them you can match the single unit price of the LM-1.
But how much does the LM-1 cost with all of the cables, etc. that this unit includes for no extra charge? I'm not trying to knock the LM-1, or the Zeitronix for that matter, just trying to bring up what looks like an interesting and viable alternative.
As far as alternatives, I also like the PLX:
http://www.plxdevices.com/M-Series_l...roductinfo.htm
Particularly interesting is the wireless USB interface and the dual-axis G-sensor (which is listed as being available soon). This would be very interesting for autocrossers and circle track racers for comparing AFR with acceleration, braking and turning.
I did not mean to try and start a group purchase on the Dynojet units (although if it happens I might consider getting on the bandwagon), but I was looking for feedback. I have heard excellent things about the LM-1 (and also saw the Two Guys Garage episode with the Grand National where they used and highly recommended the LM-1) but do not care for the lack of package deals on their stuff - everything has to be purchased separately and very little is included with the base unit. And the LM-1 is also a Bosch sensor based machine....

Oh... forgot to mention for anyone interested... came across an interesting site for those looking for a low cost NTK L1H1/L2H2 based system:
http://www.daytona-twintec.com/WEGO.html
No data logging or frills with the basic system, and the newer (Bosch sensor) verson with the frills is over $400, but again it is interesting to look at the various options out there.
(The basic version of the above has been on eBay at various times for as little as $210)
