EFI Tuning
Picked up the fall 2004 issue of "Engine Masters" the other day and there is an interesting article about EFI tuning at an EFI University started by a guy named Ben Strader. He has been into EFI tuning since 1996. He held a class on tuning in Wethersfield Connecticut recently and the following was mentioned in his opening statement to the class of 30 people:
"The growing popularity and continual advancement of our hobby has made it fairly easy to find a performance shop that will take on ECU modification and tuning. The double edged sword strikes blindly due to the nature of these mods--most of us can spot a damaged cylinder head or hear a leaky exhaust, but when the demon is locked away in a vehicle's engine control unit it is much more difficult to figure out the problem."
The article goes on to say:
Let's face it, besides the customary inquiry with the BBB regarding a certain shop, we're on our own with computer-related mods. Word of mouth is everything in our hobby, but with the sheer volume of misinformation at the track and on the web it's a typical case of buyer beware, "Your money---and perhaps even your engine---hangs in the balance."
I thought it was a good article. Pick up the article for yourself if you want to read more. I would give the web site but I dont know if it would be considered advertising because it is a university seminar course.
