minimum air setting and revised idle
minimum air setting and revised idle
I was doing some heavy duty reading in a quest to get my idle a little smoother (now idling at 750 with a zz4 cam).
I came upon a post that said to set minimum air.
Question: is this set to the same specs as factory (450 rpm, I believe, in an L98) even though it's now set to idle 200 rpm higher than stock?

The min air was set with the low factory idle speed in mind. If you can datalog, set the min closed throttle position so you have around 15 or so IAC counts when idling.
Thanks, Dim.
That's what I neded to know. There's no mechanical adjustment necessary, then? Just the chip?
I'm having trouble getting a cable to work right now for my datalogging software. Will a stab at 15 counts work?

Actually you would need to follow the instructions on adjusting your IAC first. Adjusting IAC/TPS
You will be opening up the throttle blades more than it was stock most likely. I think I set mine to about 600 idle with the IAC disconnected. Then you will reconnect the IAC as per the instructions and check your IAC count. I actually need to do that part myself.
Right now I need to replace my EGR valve and go through the whole process again......

Very good. Now, the min idle would be 100 rpm lower than idle in drive (working on the basis of original 550 idle in drive and 450 min idle)?
Thanks.
Thanks.

There is no need to reset the IAC as its handled automatically. The tps may need to be reset if its too high but usually its fine to leave it be if your changing the min air a tad.
If you want to adjust teh min air, there is a plug that has to be driven out. Usually peircing it around the edge and prying it out is the easiest way to remove it. You can then turn the throttle stop screw to give the desired min air adjustment. Shoot for like 15-20 IAC counts when the motor is warm and idling.
