Hot start issues and long crank times?

Stopping for gas after a long drive on the interstate. When I refire the car, it will sometimes detonate, or pop thru the intake. At least thats what it sounds like to me. Could this be a lean condition? Too much timing at start up? It only does it once in awhile and when its heat soaked. I have the stock 6* at the crank and stock timing in the tables at start up. The motor has around 11.0 compression so this worries me. IM afraid i might crack a piston on startup if that even possible.

Also the car will take a few extra cranks to start at times, and others, it will fire right up. I have Tunercat and i see a few tables that sound like they might be a place to start. Just not sure where to start.

Did a few searches found some stuff for the maf cars.

Thanks,
Mike

Lean?, yes.
Too much timing maybe.

Often it's the IAC park posistion being too far open. Try dropping those down.

Then there's a table for decaying out the start AFR. Might quicken their decay rates out.

Might min the start spark timing adder.

Varies, by code, and your engine mods what'll work. Make slow changes, and note your results to note the trends of what your car likes, and dislikes.

Hi Bruce... thank you for the reply....I havent changed anything in the IAC tables so i will give that a try first.

Btw, a big thanks to you and others for the idea of going open loop. My car has never ran better!
