Tuning Question

Hey guys, excuse me, I'm really new to tuning computers....it prolly looks alot more complicated than it really is, but I havent' come to understand it yet....What i'm gonna do this winter is pretty much redo my whole upper end on my engine...new heads, HSR intake, cam, probably new injectors, and exhaust...prolly everything that would disrupt my stock computer settings...my question is how do i get this back into tune after I swap all this stuff in??? I talked to a buddy of mine that has a 98 LS1 with heads/intake/cam/exhaust, and he said all he did was buy a module from thunderracing.com, and he said that expands the learning curve of the computer, and the computer just relearns everything and deals with all the new parts...how true is this? Other people that i've talked to on here say I need to get a lap top, some plug in's or something, and some software, and I need to change everything in my computer....Maybe you guys know on what exactly to do...i've asked for help before just so i could get my feet wet, but everybody just type posts that i totally don't understand at all....so what exactly has to be done to get this thing running right after i swap all this stuff in?

here is that module from thunderracing i was talking about:
http://thunderracing.com/catalog/?ac...vid=6&pcid=154 I think that is what he was talking about..

I would do the swap first, and take it from there. Get everything up and running. I take it you are going to remain using the MAF.

1.) I bought The Pocket Programmer II . To read and write information to my Eprom. I also bought the eraser for about $60. To erase my chips. All at this site
http://www.xtronics.com/memory/EPROM.htm#Testimonials $150

2.) I bought extra Chips from www.jameco.com about $1 per chip I bought about 5 chips. I bought spares so i would never have to touch my stock chip.

3.) Then I bought TunerCat. This software got me started on tunning. I think this was about $70. www.tunercat.com

It sounds like a lotta money but its worth it. I got my car running pretty damn good for pretty much stock motor and trans. I program for few friends to for pretty cheap and there happy too. Sometimes its trail and error programming.

Get youself a scantool such as Diacom, and a laptop, it will be less trial and error, because you can give the engine what it wants, not what we think it needs. Later do some wideband tuning.

Initially it might run better than you think. You can benifit from fine tuning though.
