What's my mask and bin def that I need?

Hey everyone,

Just diving into the prom burning fun and I've run into a small snag. I've got my prom reader/burner, adapters and chips. I managed to read my stock memcal which I believe is a 27C128. (pre '87 MAF) which should be '165 ECU right?

I managed to download the stock prom into a bin, but now I can't seem to make any sense of it in tunerpro. I can't find the right definition file to read it properly. I've tried 6E, 32, and 32b with no luck. My MAF charts and spark charts look pretty crazy. Here's the real pickle. My stock prom has no sticker on it to identify the mask. The sticker is replaced with a plain jane white sticker and that's it. The only other numbers printed on the chip are:

I606
L8808
980
9300
0474

The blue cover to my chip has no mask on it. The brown socket that holds the stock chips has 68767 and 8816 stamped into it.

That's all I can find. I'm not sol am I?

Which mask and bin definition should I use?

If you think it'd help, I can e-mail my bin file to you.

Thanks,

-HD

Somehow I get the feeling that I'm not reading the stock memcal properly, or if I even can. If I use the stock memcal header to read it with burn1, if I insert the chip to the back of the socket, I get no read. If I insert the chip to the front of the socket (where the little lever is) I do get a read but it makes no sense when opened with a bin. As far as I knew, I'm supposed to insert the chip towards the back of the socket just like the 27SF512's right?

What am I doing wrong, or can I even read this chip? Or is it a chip other than a 27C128?

Some of memcals only used 1/2 of the space available. Try reading it as a 256, and see if that works.

None of the numbers you mentioned ring any bells with me about what they might signify as far as identifing what you're working on.

I managed to find the HDR1 documentation on Craig Moates's site that shows exactly how to use the adapter. I've been using it wrong, but when I position the chip as shown in the pictures on the website, I get no data off the chip. I'll try it again as a 256.

Is this for your '84 1500? I can't say for sure what it is, but its not likely to be a 1227165.

I've transplanted a TPI system into my truck last fall. It's a pre '87 MAF system, likely '86. Came out of a camaro with a 350. Why am I having problems reading the chip though? That's what I don't understand.

I got it!!

I finally figured it out. For some odd reason I had to select 27C512 chip and set the chip offset to C000-FFFF. That gives me a 16k bin that actually makes perfect sense with a $32 bin def.

All the charts and values look like they should. Now to start playing

Thanks for the help.
