Tunerpro error counts

I just came back from an attempted datalog of my car. I finally got the serial port problems with the laptop straightened out. So I hook the cable up to the laptop and car, start it up, and hit connect to ecm. The error counts begin to go up rapidly and the screen freezes except for the mouse and the error count. I can't click on any of the tabs for sensor monitoring data. I'm thinking there has to be some fault in the cable, but if anyone has any other ideas, or ways to test the cable with a multimeter to confirm if it is working correctly, i'd like your input.

I haven't gotten my thirdgen out of storage yet, that comes in june, so i'm connecting to a cutlass cierra 3.3 , i believe that has the 1227727 in it. I'm using tunerprort 3.1. I wrote the .ads file myself, but its pretty much the same with the 1227730, just enter the mode 1 command string. i based it off the A143.ds file from aldlstuff.
