The short of it, I just picked up a L98 car, it did not run, I finally got to the point it will run but the MAF is bad, or at least it will not burnoff, and it runs like crap. I have a running MAF car so I snagged the MAF, and it idled beautiful. So I have 1 MAF, 2 cars...
I have 3 choices,
1) EASY: I can replace the MAF for about $170.
2) CHEEP: Convert my 165 to 808 / $6E to $5D.
3) more complex: Convert my MAF to SD get the 730 ECM should I go whole hog and go to the 730 ECM.
What is the benefit of going to the 720 ECM over sticking with the 165, and converting it to SD?

IMO, if you like to settle for OK, or kinda close, then MAF will get you by. If someone developed the patch like the Turbo Regals have to fix the code, it wouldn't be as bad, but as it as it stands the 6E, just needs too much work to make it *right*. Again, IMO.

Cheapest would be the 808 code conversion.
Best long term would prolly be junkyard 730 $30, new memcal $50 and some time repinning to the 730 $8D platform.
All the editors have very nice definition files for it and there are many code patches available and a titanic amount of knowledge available for support.
It would be cheaper than the $170 maf sensor u will never have to replace again.
