i was looking over the guidebook at the configurations for running the ALDL cable with a laptop i have a newer laptop (no serial connections) but for a school project (homebrewed mp3 player {not alot of fun let me tell you}) i picked up a PCMCIA card slot serial adapter i was wondering if this should work or should i pull my old laptop out of the attic and repair it?

aslo my car is 86 305 TPI what cable shematic should i follow i looked at all 3 not really too sure....... im in the process of getting the materials to start doing my own tuning figured the aldl cable should be the first at least that way i can run tunerProRT and see some stuff happening

what kinda old laptop do u have??

 

the old laptop i have is a PIII 700mhz nothing major, my girl friend is using it now in grad school.

Back on topic i stopped by my buddies garage tonite and borrowed just his obd1 connector and power cable for it.... if i just take a serial cable and hook it up whats the chances of it working? it should save building one.... really not sure. i wouldve borrowed the entire scanner but he might need it and told me i could have the connector cause he barely ever uses it

scratch that idea took a better look at it now its using a game port connector, going to try to build the 2 transistor cable tomorrow in class (gotta love college) and then ill try to make a nice connector for it

 

Ok i did alot of research today.......... going to build a cable so thas taken care of.....

does anyone know if either a usb to serial adapter will work if i tap power from the car itself or the pcmcia cardbus serial adapter will work?
