w2k or win xp compatibility with tuning/scan soft\hardware?

My old laptops are giving it up, so I've been shopping for a couple of new ones. May have to settle for used/newer to me.
Of course first concern is finding ones that still have a com and parralell ports!
I've been using win98se without any problems with tunercat, rt tuner, pocket programer, pocket romulator, fjo wideband, and tts datamaster.
I remeber some folk have said they've run into various problems wither newer O.S's. Has anyone run into problems with the above under win2k? Or XP? I'll probably stick with win2k, but would like to know about potential problems with xp also. If need be though I'll reload win98se.
I'm also using diacom+p, but I'll con't to run that with another ancient 486 under dos.
Thanks for any help!

Same

Any problems will most likely be PC specific.
A driver conflict or something.

I have been using a Dell Inspiron 600m with XP home for almost a year now with TunerPro, an Ostrich, and a homemade two trans ALDL cable with no problems. I have also been using it to download the LM-1 logs with no problems.

The Dell 600m is one of the VERY few laptops you can still get with a serial port and parallel port.

Been awhile but I had a serial pcmcia card for my laptop, and win2k didn't have support for 32bit pcmcia devices or some damn thing. Worked fine under 98 and xp though. Onboard ports worked just peachy though.
