need help with 2 questions please

Knock Counts = the amount of timing that is subtracked away from the motor when its running to advanced right?

Knock retard= the amount of timing added when the motor is in need of more timing right?

Reason being is when i data logging i get a couple knock counts under heavy accel 0-60 MPH WOT i get about 6 knock counts. There is not really a normal amount of knock counts right? same with knock retard? Should be almost none right?

thank you

my knock counts were real - not mechanical. i removed 2 deg in tune- timing and KC's went away(93 octane). did not reappear with 89 octane. knock counts are the times the sensor detects and retards timing during log session. not sure if the retard is always the same or greater retard at a reoccurance of event. sensor detects and retards and rearms awaiting another knock. knock retard is the amount it retards timing when knock is detected. maybe 2 deg? not sure. not as you stated. timing is added in PE i believe.

Ok i feel stuiped after looking at my datamaster log it all makes sence. i think knock count is the amount of retard it needs to normalize the timing.

So this is cool all i need to do is look at my load var and my rpms and find the knock count and bump it down as needed. finally just got my scan tool working with the 7165 ecm so i,m kinda studying my logs finally.

BTW if anyone has any tips about getting the 7165 ECM to sync up better with my datalogger that would be great.

knock count is the number of times it saw knock. when it recognizes knock it pulls some timing(not sure how much) and resets until knock is not seen any longer. knock retard may be adjustable in your tune. i believe it can be disabled.

Ronny,
you are right knock retard can be disabled or changed. i topically don't want to disable it for a street car?

Cool so my next step will be to monitor knock and advance or retard timing per data log.
