Could not initialize port

Ive been using this datalogger for awhile but just tonight im having problems.

I need COM1 port open or free on my laptop but windows is showing COM1 (in use). Is there anyway i can free up com1 or find out what is using my com1? It keeps saying "Could not initialize port". Since windows is showing com1 as (in use), im assuming thats why its saying "could not intialize port".

Any help would be great. Thanks

Tunerpro shows the option of changing from com1 to com3 but using the seriall port can i change it from com1 to com2? This is a homemade 2 tran. 8192 interface and Tunerpro RT.

What operating system? Does it have a modem in it? Modems usually grab the first com port avail (com1).

TP does some weird stuff with choosing serial ports. I can do real-time emulation with TunerCat with a USB to serial plug connected to the emulator. I have TP4.0 on the DB9 serial port for ALDL for logging. All works fine.

If I try to use TP4.0 to emulate & ALDL log with the exact same connections, it has a fit and would not connect to the emulator. It will ALDL log though. Some strange in the port acquisition on TP4.0.

Yes, it has a modem-Laptop modem

I tried to disable the modem but of course it keep re-enableing it.
This is what some people on my local f-bod site said:

"Maybe checking the COM ports via DOS will help?

During boot up to get to the BIOS screen and see what you can spot. My Toshiba had a "TSETUP" program in the DOS directory that lets me control all sorts of things."

"Go into your BIOS during boot and disable the COM port. Windoze will still recognize it, but hopefully whatever is using the COM port won't steal it."

Does that sound like what i need to you?

You should be able to go into control panel->system and change the modem to use a different com port.
That will make com1 available.

All TunerPro does is auto-detect the emulator. If the emulator is on COM4, TunerPro will detect it on COM4. It uses whatever manually-entered settings are specified for the ALDL settings.

Nothing weird about it.
