Need Computer Help!!

alright just bought a 86 trans am. It used to be a 305 auto but is now a 350 manual. I think that the computer is the stock one for the 305. Cant I just swap out a 350 manual vette computer? or will this have problems, also would it hurt to add a hypertech or a custom chip on the new computer seeing as it has exhaust, upgraded ignition and a cam? thanks...and i would have done a search but cant find it in the "new" setup of thirdgen.org but I did look through all of the posts and couldnt find this problem. thanks again

Read the stickies up top.

305 to 350 swaps are covered as well as auto to manual issues.

Yes you would need to do more than simply swap a vette chip in.

Complete info on how and what u need to get started doing your own tuning is there in detail as well.

Hypertech and others like it are junk, many of us have opened them side by side to stock calibrations and they are junk :-)

so would I be better off just getting a custom chip burnt to accomodate the 350 and the manual or should I just buy an 86 ta ecm for 350 and manual off of a parts site and put in a custom chip? thanks

See previous reply.

This is a DIY forum only and no discussion of chip tuners and custom proms allowed.

The vette and f-bod use the same ecm for your years.

U would need to use either a vette/6spd bin or a 305/5spd f bod vin and work it to suit your combination
