Question on computer controlled timing...
Just want to know if the computer increases timing as the rpm's go up(especially in 3rd gear)? I'm asking this b/c I have an MSD Adjustable timing control and when I progressively turn up the timing while at WOT, the car runs faster. I've tried this on the GTech several times and I always get better times when I turn up the timing in 3rd gear. When you burn a chip, do you set it to increase timing?

The OEM chip has a pretty mellow timing curve. I use one of those MSD's to advance timing to knock, so I know what spark numbers to burn in the new chip I am designing. Like me, use a scan tool to monitor knock counts as you turn up the spark advance with the MSD control. You'll need the scan tool as you cannot hear the initial onset of knock with your ears. You'll be surprised how much spark you can add before knock starts! One side note, when you are making a spark table for your new chip, you shouldn't use the advance that you got to make the engine knock, you actually add a little less advance than that as the last few degrees of advance before knock don't add any power, they just just add heat and the potential for knock w/bad gas.
