EGR

I was told that I needed to disable my EGR valve when I was modifying my prom. I am going to block the ERG valve anyway. I have Tuner cat and I can not find a place to disable it. I see where I can disable the EGR fault code, but not disable the EGR Valve. When I looking at GMEPRO it had this function in edit tables. Where is it at in tuner cat?

Dean,

Who told you that you had to disable the EGR?! That's a load of crap. You don't have to disable it.

If you DO want to disable it then you don't really have to do too much to the bin. The ECM commands EGR by pulsing the EGR solenoid. If you remove the solenoid and all the miscellaneous EGR stuff then even if the computer sends the signal to the solenoid nothing will happen because the solenoid isn't there However, at this point you may see an error code. In the bin just disable the EGR Diagnostic.

Now - on another note keep in mind that you have disabled the EGR but the computer still thinks that its getting some exhaust gas recirculation (exhaust gas into the intake). Although I have not seen anything negative by fully disabling my EGR, theoretically, you could see your engine running a tad bit lean when EGR is suppose to be kicking in (due to the extra O2 entering the engine). This could cause some stumbling and possibly detonation. However, when I disabled my EGR I did not see either of these and my discussions with others who have disabled their EGRs haven't seen that either.

TRAXION,

Did you remove your EGR and block it off or did you disable it in your prom program?

Dean,

I did both. When I had the Large Tube Runner setup (now miniram), I used a blockoff plate in place of the EGR. I then removed the EGR solenoid and the corresponding vacuum lines and then plugged the port on the throttle body with a small vacuum plug. After doing all the mechanical stuff I then disabled the EGR diagnostic in the PROM. Everything ran great and I never got a code. I am now running the MiniRam which does not have EGR. I simply have the EGR diagnostic turned off in the PROM.
