They have different broadcast codes so I doubt they'd be compatible. Not 100% sure though... but 99% says they're not. Hehe

Depends what you mean by interchangeable. You can run '89 code in '86-'88 165 ECMs. In that case - they ARE interchangeable.

I'm kinda getting off topic with this, and I'm a little bit embarassed to speak ill of one of the major supporters of thirdgen, but hear me out..

I posted a request last week (I think it was 10/25) on the SDPC board for pricing on a factory '89 395TPI A4 chip, because I want to use that as the starting point for experimentation on my '86. I haven't heard any kind of response yet, not even an "i'll look into it" or a "can't help you, get me a part number". I want to support the thirdgen sponsors, but patience isn't one of my virtues I guess! Am I being unrealistic with this, I would've like to have recieved SOME sort of feedback to my request by now! Maybe I'm misunderstanding what the SDPC board is for.. I thought they were a GM dealer selling factory and aftermarket parts to the internet community!

Just venting I guess.. Please feel free to tell me if I'm way off base with this. Maybe the SDPC moderator is on vacation or something?!

Hmm.. "Jeff@SDPC" is answering other people's requests now, but still not mine. I'm confused, to say the least.

Grav,

Sorry things aren't working out for you with getting an answer from Jeff. I can't speak for him but if you want a part number quick I would just call the local GM dealer to have them fishup a part number for you. Then, if you want to order one, call up the place with the lowest GM prices

Just an idea.

Just to correct my slurring of Jeff's good reputation, he answered my request on the SDPC board yesterday and offered to help. Although you guys have convinced me to use the ARAP code, I still don't think it would hurt to keep my '86 PROM/carrier intact, and use a different one for modification! If he's in the $30 range, I'll get it.
