Other sources for prom tuning info???
I have read traxion's article and have spent some time searching this forum. Unfourtunately I have a 165 and not the 730 ecm that seems to be on the chopping block of good discusion right now. What I have found in other posts on this board is that at best we have some good info in a very un-organized manar with little or no insite on what is fact and what is opinion, or even worse fiction. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a great board with some very knowledgable people posting on it, but the fact is that some of the things that we can change in our ecm's .bin could easily turn a brand new engine into a paper weight. Bottom line of this post is a question of where to find published books or certified and detailed articles on what/when/where/why to change your prom calibration. If anyone knows of such books or articles, please post where to find them here, or if there are no such books, post that here instead. Thanks to everyone involved with the only forum I visit on a daily basis.

Please note that everything that you need regarding advanced tuning techniques as they relate to BIN modification is not listed in an article for you to read anywhere on the internet. What you need to know cannot be found in some book that you can buy on Amazon.com. They exist in scattered articles, messageboard subjects, mailing list discussions, and old archives. There is no other way to learn these more advanced techniques besides researching these messageboards, mailing lists, archives, and scattered articles. It is now your job to get from point A to point B.

Remondi2, cruise around here for awhile.

I can empathize with you. There is no "cookbook" out for modifying factory ECMs.
The GM ECMs are proprietary, and GM is NOT going to release a manual on modifying them. Furthermore, it is a FEDERAL OFFENSE to change your PROM so as to alter the emissions output of your car. No wonder PROM programming is an "underground" activity. Factor in the fact that anyone who does get good at this starts doing it for $$$$, it is little wonder that there aren't comprehensive manuals. (BTW, how many of the thousands of bytes on a PROM does anyone think have been hacked?)
Have patience. The moderators here have been very helpful, and hopefully, as more and more "MAF-ers" get into this, more info. will be forthcoming.
p.s. You get what you pay for at thirdgen.org. The rest is up to you.

Not to nitpick, but if it is an offense to do this, how does hypertech, superchip, etc. get away with doing it? Maybe because they all have this big warning on the box that reads
This chip is intended for off road use only! ?
Disclaimer:
I only use my modified chips for off road use. I would never put them in a street car

There are no majic bullets for tuning, carb, diesel, turbo, DFI, DIY, Speedpro, etc.. Each has it own short comings.
Only up until the last few years did we have more then the timing and fuel (VE) tables to work with.
About the 730 issue, well in Rome, do as the Romans, hahaha.
The 730 just happens to be a neat devise. For a non PCM it's a robust seldon to fail devise.
