ESC Option flag in $58 code

i know ESC is electronic spark control, what happens if the flag is not "set" in $58 code? my car is running really rich an i cant seem to get it to lean out, ESC was not "set" in the bin, i havent tried it yet, was just curious

This bit controls whether or not the spark timing will be adjusted based on knock sensor input. Clearing this bit means the computer won't change timing regardless of what the knock sensor "sees". It shouldn't have anything to do with fueling.....
