160 baud data stream Help.

It seems like no one out there wants to write a program that will work with my car. Obviously it is a 88 formula TBI (1228063). every one says it is tooo slow. (data stream) Well i don't want to replace it just yet... I want to start at the bottom and work my way up the ladder of knowledge.
So i'm gonna write my own program. So far I have been able to save the data stream to a file. It's in hex form. What i need to know is what is the header bytes, (or starting bytes)(I think it's 00F1) and what does the rest of the bytes represent.
One of my biggest problems right now is that I'm doing this right now without a motor in the car. (I've got a 350 I'm putting together and I'm taking my time)
Any direction in this project will be greatly apprieciated. And yes I will give this out freely to any one that wants it.
Thanks Chooch

The 160 baud is less of a hurdle than the 8063 will be. There aren't any bin editors for that ECM that I know of. You would be better off swapping to the 1228746 or the 1227747. Both will plug right in. Both have editors available. There is more info on the 7747.

There is a free scan tool for the 160 baud at http://www.techedge.com.au/vehicle/aldl160/aldl_sw.htm

You may have to change some of the parameters. The aldl stream is available at http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Shop/9938/

Take some time and search this forum for 8746 and 747. You will find answers to many question you may have.

Brent called it right.

Ya know for years all we had to work with is the 160.
You don't have to have a the triple wammy double throw down state of the art stuff to go fast.

There are lots of 9 sec GNs using a 160 data stream

It still boils down to testing and tuning

So your saying It's a lost cause to read the streaming data from my computer (1228063) because I won't be able to modify the eprom later?
And if I change over to the 7747 computer there are programs that are ready to be burned into it (or at least a good starting point).
Now what aldl speed is the 7747 stream?

Thats exactly what I'm saying.

The 7747 is well documented. There are bins availble to start off with at the DIY-EFI site when it comes back up.

Read the intro article at the top of this page if you haven't already. The editors etc are covered for you. The 7747 uses 160baud.

If I'm gonna change the computer .... Is there one that I can change to that will give me a baud rate of 8192? (without too much trouble)

Well, I did alot of searching around the old topics and found just about all the info I need. I think I will go with the 747... the only question that I have is there was talk about some features (bells and whistles) that are missing in the 747, compared to the 8746.. But noone said what they were. Any Ideas?
Thanks alot for the help.
Rick
