Where to start?...NO CLUE!!!!

I have been a fan of TPI for some time, and rather than jump right into mods, I have spent time researching(and saving). It has become clear to me that stock or modified...eventually power is found or lost in the programming of the computer. Secondly, it seams that the store bought chips are a joke and not really very effective. I have a 89 iroc with the L98 350 and my mods to be list consists of, a slightly hotter cam...AFR heads ported intake, and exhaust. Basically give it more air, the means to use that air...and then get rid of it. But what about the prom. I have no idea where to start. Do I buy a chip...every different mod would require diff. tuning right? Let's assume I don't even modify the engine at all! Right now I have K&N filters and a flowmaster. How so I tune my prom. Can I tune it? I know what the computer does...and that's about it!

Are my questions too vague? Please tell me where to start.

You know, it's funny, I posted, and then saw that link and read the article. When I came back...well, you said to read that article!!

AND THEN THERE WAS LIGHT!!!!

I hate to ask a newbie question...or 2 (LOL)

1. How does this differ from DFI
2. Perhaps prom burning should be the first mod/skill learned. Whaddya think. Heck, you could double the efficiency of your K&N if you knew what to change, right! Maybe not...but you get the idea! Am I right?
