Scanning?

I figured this would be a good place to ask this since it closely relates to prom burning. I'm thinkin' about buying some equipment to do some scanning to see what my car is doing. I know I need a laptop and some sort of software like Diacom. How much does the Diacom software cost and where can I get it??? Also, what do I have to buy to connect the laptop to the car to do the scanning??? Basically I'm trying to figure out what I need and what it's gonna cost me.

Save yourself the $500 for Diacom + and buy eprom burning equipment instead. Then convert to the ARAP BIN and get Craig Moate's FREE scan tool software. You just need to make a cable or you can buy one for under $100.

You'll be MUCH further ahead AND save money.

So basically to start out with I could just get a laptop, Craig Moate's FREE scan tool software, and a cable to do the scanning on my car. Then if I wanted to burn my own proms I could buy the Diacom + software??

Or are you saying that I have to convert to the ARAP BIN before I can use Craig Moate's FREE scan tool software?

Craigs software works on more than just the $6E version of code that the ARAP.bin uses. And Diacom is an alternative to Craig's program that is more comprehensive than his program. But Craig's program will tell you everything you need to know for tuning and it is FREE, like Glenn is saying.... (Thanks Craig!!).

So with a cable, a laptop, and Craigs software, you can scan your car and see what is going on with your setup and decide from there what you want to do.

To be able to actually burn your own PROMs.... well, read Traxion's article - I'm not typing the same stuff that his article says!! The link is at the top of the page in the DIY PROM board......
