idle-IAC questions....

hi all..

still fighting with idle problems

the IAC park position is 160 counts....

when my engine is cold, its at 160, and still its not enough air to get a stable idle...
min IAC is 40 counts

what would happen, if i define 120counts as park position, and open the TB a bit more? would the counts then go up, or will 120 still be the limit?

hope you can help me

regards

Reinhold

I would simply set you desired idle speed in the calibration. Then just open your throttle blades to get the number of steps you want (which I would recommend 0-10 in park/neutral).

what is the thing with the min. IAC counts?

are they fixed, or are they a function of TB opening?

e.g. when i open the TB , will the min.IAC counts go down?

thanks

Upon start-up the IAC should be at the park position count.
Upon, RUN, that should stay the same, or slightly ramp to a lower number.

If 160 ain't enough, then you have a poor combo of IAC pintle, too low of min idle setting, incorrect amount of timg for a cold engine, or a mechanical issue.

First try opening the min idle screw say 3/4 of a turn.

BTW, start with a clear head, a clean sheet of note book pager, and notes with * A NEW BEGINNING*. It sounds like you've been chasing things, rather than analysising them. Taking detailed notes of trends, ALWAYS works.

that's basically the number of counts (steps) it takes to idle the engine over-and-above what's coming through the throttle blades. It varies with temperature (more counts needed at cold, less at full operating temp).

Completely a function of TB opening. If you closed you TB completely, the max or 160 probably wouldn't be enough. If you opened your TB completely, the steps would go to zero as the ECM attempted to lower the idle back to what was specified in your cal.

Re: idle-IAC questions....

first, shine a flashlight into the idle air passage and see where the iac actually is. mebbe the ecm is trying to open an iac that ain't opening. you might wanna get or borrow another iac to plug in to see if the ecm moves it, then screw in place to run motor while you check existing one.
