Re: ELEC SPARK CONT

I don't know about sensitivty year to year, but what I do know.....
The knock detector is little more than a microphone filtered to the bore size acoustic resonance.
I know that earlier sensors were lacking filtering, and later sensors/modules are tuned to the knock in THAT engine. I suppose that could be said to be "less sensitive" to non-knock noises.
All that, there are a number of ways to de-sensitize the sensor.
Wrap the threads with plumbers tape is one way.
Install a plastic bushing between the sensor and the block. ( standard plumbing plastic part )
Stuff the bushing with cotton.
Anything that would reduce YOUR ability to hear it, will also reduce the sensor's ability to hear it.
Be careful, though. First, confirm that it isn't really detonating, else you'll be buying internal engine parts at some point.

Re: ELEC SPARK CONT

I'm not an expert but maybe this will provide some stimulus for someone with more time in the subject. My thoughts are that the knock sensor is the sensitive part, not the ESC. The ESC only does what the ECM's program tells it to do. Once a voltage signal is sent from the sensor to the ESC, the ESC relays that back to the ECM. The ECM then sends a retard command to the ESC. I wonder if the ESC is just a analog digital converter...hmmm? Are you running solid lifters? If so and that frequency can be "heard" by the sensor, I'm at a loss, maybe you could teflon tape the sensor threads to desensitize it. That's probably not very good advice though. If your not using solids then perhaps your knock sensor may be failing, wrong one for your engine, or your knock sensor wire is routed with a spark plug wire and picking up a induced voltage and sending a false signal. Mine runs real close to the starter and picks up the starter on occasion. Just check your plugs, wires, timing, EGR operation etc to make sure you really don't have a lean knock first.
