New To Tuning

Hey All,

I decided that I am gonna get into this whole tuning business. I read the "new to tuning" sticky at the top and I have a few questions.

I have a 1988 TransAm with 305 TBI. I figured I would practice on tuning this engine and see how well I do and how fast I pick it up as I plan on doing a 350 swap in the near future. I want to keep the TBI setup as it seems fairly easy to maintain and delivers decent airflow. Well I was wondering

1) They have a few programmers listed such as the pocket programmer the arlabs one and the needhams one. Does it make a difference which I get?

2) Where do you guys order your new IC's from?

3) I bought an ALDL cable...I haven't tried it yet because I wasn't sure why it had a 12 volt cigarette lighter attachement. Do you need to use this or is this only used on certain ECM's? I believe my 88 came with the 8063 ECM.

If you have any other advice or things to add as to what I should be getting to do this I would be greatly apreciated. I figure it would probably be best to do my own tuning rather then running this TBI chip I bought off of ebay.

Thanks

Re: New To Tuning

because you have & want to stay with TBI, i think you will want to look into the EBL, or Embedded Lockers.

i think these will give you an ideal of what the EBL can do,

Re: New To Tuning

So this EBL is a datalogger?

You still have to burn chips right?

Re: New To Tuning

I think I sorta answered my own question by going to http://www.dynamicefi.com/ and finding the Flash version of the EBL. I think that would be the quick and dirtiest way to tune my car. Just the thought of not having to pull the battery every time I disconnect the ECM to swap the chip excites me.

I excite easily.
