Hey guys, after doing much reading on tuning my 6E equipped firebird I found some suggestions to work with some settings that weren't in the tunerpro XDF file. So I reverted to form and fixed it. I went through the hac and anything that I thought I knew what it might do I added to the definition file. So far it's somewhere around 20 tables and constants that I added. Including the O2 upper and lower error tables, fast o2 rich/lean table, some of the proportional step stuff, startup enrich vs MAT table, Default air flow offset per g/sec vs RPM table, Rich/Lean window for both regular and A.I.R. constant, minimum error to implement INT constant, a few gain and filter constants, some Decel stuff, and some sundry other crap. I've tested most of it on my car, and it all seems to be working. I believe I've got the conversion math right, seems to be working ok anyway. Take a look, give it a whirl, if I screwed up somewhere, let me know so I can fix it.
Right now the only place I could get it to upload to was the diy-efi ftp site in the incoming folder.
Edit: removed the diy-efi link because as I make corrections it won't let me update the existing file

It doesn't register the duty cycle in the Cooling fan duty cycle vs coolant temp table right, but other than that ->

 

Very cool, this is what I planned on doing once im further along in my learnings. Im trying to dig as deep into the ECM as i can, its ironic that im a mechanical engineer

 

Your right about the cooling fan duty cycle one, interestingly though, I didn't add that one. But it does work in the base I started with. Dunno if I changed it by accident or how it got messed up. Fixing it now though, should be right on both sites, under
6Eexpanded2.xdf on the diy-efi site, since I couldn't overwrite the first one, and the same link should work for my site.

 

Ok one more time, found a couple constant errors this morning (forgot to change the bits from 8 to 16) they work properly now. Also removed the diy-efi link above because I can't just update the existing file there, so right now the only place is on my site, just copy and paste the text, or save it to your comp renaming it whatever.xdf. If I get hold of Craig, I'll see if we can figure out the problem I'm having uploading there.

Yet another update, added one more table, and corrected the math on one other. Just got to remember the math in the hac doesn't translate directly to the math for the xdf. It's just simple algebra to turn the formula's around, but it's been a while since I used that crap . Of course some of the stuff doesn't have formula's provided either, so I've had to derive some of them from the hex value to the default value provided. Just remember the version on diy-efi isn't current anymore, you'll have to use the links to my crappy site. But don't tease me about it, I didn't even use it until I had to set it up for this.

The hac I'm using came from Craigs site I believe. I actually got it from 3 or 4 different sources, but that one seemed to be the most accurate and complete.

 

When you're done and confident in your changes, send me the XDF and I'll include it with the TunerPro distribution.

You can try to merge yours with the XDF I made if you want (it's attached in the linked post above). It has a LOT of non-standard things in it. I haven't checked out yours yet, though, and I don't really have time to test anything. Most of it is from the ARAP and BUA hacks, and I think the original base is the one Mark had with Tunerpro a while back.

Just uploaded a huge update, added huge amounts of constants and several tables. Download it, use it, abuse it, tear it apart. Pretty sure I've got all the math right this time. Think I missed labeling a few units of measure, but I need a break . Let me know if you find any glaring mistakes so I can get it updated and sent over to Mark.

 

Hey guys, it's come to my attention that some of you are having trouble downloading the file. So here's some instructions.
1. Click on the link above to go to my links page.
2. RIGHT click on the link to the file
3. On the pop up menu click "Save target as"
4. in the pop up window you can either change the "save as type" from txt to all files, or just save it as a text file, then rename the downloaded file to "whatever.xdf" removing the .txt from the end.

And voila you will have a usuable tunerpro definition. Just clicking on it will bring it up in your browser as a text document that you can copy and paste from as well. Hope that helps, should be able to send it to Mark soon and he'll have it, and maybe get it over to craig as well.

Just uploaded what i hope will be very close to a final version. Added just about everything that was left in the hac, and it was a whole butt load of more constants and a few more tables, the only exceptions being a few things that I couldn't come up with any conceivable need to change. I think, if I missed anything important let me know. Any more updates after this should be limited to correcting errors, refining the math, maybe updating some units. I'm debating changing all the temperature related tables to ALL degree's farenheight or ALL degrees Celsius to minimize the confusion, but that may be more of a pita than I want to deal with now. I commented a couple things with question marks, and there's a fuel limiting vs coolant table that I couldn't figure out what it relates too. They're in there but use at your own risk, if you figure them out, let me know so I can get them updated. Enjoy, use, abuse. Sure helped my tune anyway, hope it helps you guys as much. Soon as I get a chance to verify the math I'll send a copy over to Mark and Craig for easier distribution.

FYI, I just tried to load the new xdf into Tunerpro, and there seems to be an error- no tables , constants or flags showing up. I am new to this, but will look at it. BTW, Thank you for sharing your effort!

 

Thanks for letting me know, just checked it and you were right. I re-uploaded it and tested it, seems to be working fine now. Don't know if it got corrupted on the first upload or what. Should be ok if you download it again.

Anyone else having this problem? I just downloaded a fresh copy off the site and it seems to be working ok for me. If I click on it and look at it as a text file, I see a complete file. If anyone else is having difficulty, post up so I can try and figure it out.

 

I do not see a problem with the xdf. Here is what I just did:

Clicked on the link in your sig
Right clicked on the link at your site
Clicked save link as (and saved it)
Opened TP and selected your xdf
Opened a $6E BIN

The last entry in the Constants/Scalars is "%TPS HYST for PWR ENRICH"
and the last entry in Tables/Functions is "PROPORTIONAL STEP DURATION vs Error"

The scale for 'open loop afr ratio % change vs. coolant temp' is off. And the word coolant is mispelled. lol

 

Are you sure it's off? That calculation is also linked to a constant "OPEN LOOP AIR/FUEL PCT CHANGE vs COOLANT AFR BIAS". conversion formula is x/2.56 -"output of afr bias", not just a straight conversion. When working with a stock arap bin I get exactly the outputs that the hac says I should get. The calculation for the bias is kinda wierd though, that can through ya off if you look at it.

The word is mispelled though, I'll fix that next update

 

Cool. Once everything is verified and acceptable to everyone, please change the ALL CAPs in the def to suit the rest of the XDF (e.g. capitalize first leter of major words, capitalize all letters of acronyms, etc - use the current items as an example).

START UP ENRICHMENT DECAY DECAY AMOUNT vs COOLANT should be "Startup Enrichment Decay Amount vs. Coolant", "STARTUP ENRICH OFFSET vs MAT" should be "Startup Enrich Offset vs. MAT". This simply helps the definition remain readable and clear and appear contiguous, congruent, and organized.

Send along the final to me, I'll make appropriate changes and send back to you. From that point, we can stay in sync as changes are made.

Thanks for this effort! The definition as it ships with TunerPro is a result of the effort of quite a few people, including Bruce, RBob, Moates, myself, and others. The more help the merrier!

 

Yep, it's off. Everything in the table comes out in the negatives. I'll try reloading my copy, maybe it got screwed up somehow...

 

Reloading didn't help. Still off. I've messed around with my tune a little, but when I loaded a stock tpi vette bin it was off too.

 

No problem Mangus, the only reason they're all caps now is cause I was lazy on many of them and cut and pasted the names from the hac instead of typing them in. I hate the all caps myself. As you can see it's quite a few changes so may take a bit, I also just noticed I forgot to add in the CCP parameters, so I'll be adding those.

bl85c: let me know if the redownload works, I just downloaded it to a computer I didn't have it on before and didn't get all negative numbers, got mostly 0's with -3.91 in 3 spots, and the bottom 5 spots all positive going from 5.08 to 50. A simple check is to right click on it and select edit xdf item, go to the conversion tab, formula should be x/2.56-b, where x is the value of this table, and b is the value of the constant, and the item mentioned above should be referenced. You could also check what the value is in that constant, I think it's more likely the error is there if I screwed up some where, that one is kinda counter intuitive to me. Stock ARAP value of the constant should be 13.67%, if yours is different play with it and let me know, like I said, that's the one I'm worried about.

heh, posted that while you were checking, I'll look into it some more if you'll check the value of the constant for me.

 

The constant's correct, and the conversion equation for the table is x/2.56-b but the original equation in tunerpro is 0.390625 * X + 0.000000.

 

was just looking at that myself. Interesting. Not sure which one's right. This is the relative section from the hac. Keep in mind that you have to take the formula in the hack and do some basic algebra to get it where you need it. In my formula x is the table value, b is the 13.67 or the output from the constant, so after the algebra I get %chg=x/256-b or %chg=x/256-13.67. In the hack the FCB number is the value in the original and the number in the first column is the output after the conversion. I think it's time to bring in some wiser heads. Mangus, Rbob, Grim, anyone? any thoughts?

I messed around with it a little, it appears this (0.390625 * X + 0.000000) is the correct one.

RBob has stated that the TPS to volts conversion is inaccurate, it is only for a reference between TPS % and TPS volts NOT the actual TPS volts.

 

heh bringing this back from the dead. Been MIA for a coupla years do to moving, website host getting bought out, other stuff, and most importantly the laptop i did all the work on got stolen DOH!. Looks like other people got it taken care of tho. I may be copyin their stuff now in an effort to rebuild everything I had done as I dive back into it after car sittin in storage for 2 years.

Again, you should right click on it and hit save as, if you just click it it will bring up text window.

As for old discussion about the formula on OPEN LOOP AIR/FUEL PCT CHANGE vs COOLANT I left it alone. The formula blc5 was listing causes the values not to match up with what is shown in the hac. If you want to use his its a pretty simple change.

Used the def file to burn a chip but when I tried to datalog, the ECM would not talk to the laptop. Reburned the same bin with a different xdf and all was good. Just putting the info out there.

 

The act of burning chips is independent of an XDF.

 

Interesting. Tried to datalog about 7 times. Restarted the laptop at least 3 times. checked the cable. Just would not communicate until I burned the chip with a different xdf(open). Then it hooked right up. Not sure whats up. I'm using an old AKM cable with a Belkin serial/USB adaptor. I'd like to get something newer but its not in the budget right now. Current job is going away in June.

 

Hmm, that is odd. As Mangus said, the XDF is a seperate animal from the bin. In essence the bin is the information, the XDF is just puts that info in english so we don't have to think in hex and assembly. And I haven't seen any issues like that.

 

Not complaining. I understand that the bin and xdf are different animals but I swear it would not datalog the chip burned with your xdf. Reburned with another xdf and all was well. When I get time I'd like to look into the code you added for the FAST wideband. I have a FAST that I've been using to monitor the E85.

 

Let's not keep this ambigious. Please explain what it means to "burn with an XDF." Explain your steps precisely for both the working and non-working scenarios.

 

Mod a bin with a 6E xdf that came from your site and burn it to a chip, compared to the same bin modded with the xdf I saved from this thread. Then save the bin and load it to the buffer. Keep in mind, I'm relatively new to this. I also have huge respect for what you do.
