Memcal help
Memcal help
I am in the process of doing a TPI swap into a Nova and i need a little help figureing out what car my chip is for. the numbers on it are AYCH 4297. i was under the impression that this computer came from a v8 car, but i have baught a moates adaptor with a chip that has the vats deleted and i am now getting a wrong prom code. i have checked it 3 or 4 times to make sure that it is plugged in good and that nothing is messed up and every thing is fine. i am thinking that this memcal is for something other than a v8 car seeings how this thing will hardly run and everything else is right.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Memcal help
check out the sponsor tpiparts.net. They might have memcals for sale.
beware, however, that these v8 memcals have been discontinued, so will be very pricey.
if you are an industrious type that has some soldering skills, you could rebuild the memcal parts that you need, with the exception of the knock board assembly.
the memcal consists of three parts: a prom, which can contain any code you want, so no big deal there. you are already using another prom anyway with the moates adapter.
the knock board, which is cylinder bore specific, and you may wish to not use it, or if you do want to maintain knock, you could use an external module with some wiring. this is the part that you really can't make yourself.
the third part, and the reason you see error codes, is that the netres, or resistor network, is specific to the v-6. if you check out this forum for a thread entitled '73,749,727 memcal' or something similar, I have listed the values of the resistors. If you use discrete components, you can build the netres very inexpensively.
if that's too technical, you might just have to bite the bullet, or keep your eyes peeled for someone selling them cheaper then 'new'.
