EBL What's Up Display - Changes?
EBL What's Up Display - Changes?
Rbob,
Not sure how maany people are like me, but as well as loving cars, I love computers, and in my current project ( dropping a 350/350 into an Astro van) I'm not only doing a bunch of engine stuff, but I also am adding a Carputer and touchscreen to the van. This will allow me many things compterish (is that a word?) as well as have continual access to tuning without a laptop.
One of the things that caught my eye was the "Whats up display", in particualr the "trip computer" part. Fuel used, MPG etc.
What I was wondering since it seems to be a pretty neat screen, if there was any way to spice it up graphics wise? The fonts are pretty jagged etc.
I know that this is not the intended purpose of program, as well as I doubt your a graphics designer at heart, but this would be a great addition to anyone running a permanent computer in thier vehicle.
Anyone else doing this type of thing?
Randy

I've tossed the idea around for my wagon. I know the MS has a little touchscreen you can buy, and make it display everythin for the FI, but it is not an onboard computer. Heck, I don't know where to get a small computer monitor from. It would be cool to have a motitor that you could watch movies and use it for a computer, I would just mount my laptop under the seat and use it, lol.

Re: EBL What's Up Display - Changes? Rbob?
The issue is that the default fonts that are available on every Windows OS do not look good when used in a large size. Then of course 99% of the fonts are proportional. Which means they change location, spacing & width for each different character. It became a real mess.
What I ended up with are the block characters from the DOS extended character set. They are built up digits from individual characters.
The only way out would be to create my own fonts. Which is a whole 'nother story in itself.
RBob.
