"Det Cans" Why does noone use them?
has anyone tired using det cans to detect detonation instead of the knock sensor? I mean the knock sensor will not detect all knock and your ears will not either without some sort of device.

this was given to me by a friend who tunes hondas. I think it is a good way to go when tuning a modified motor. Detonation is a motor killer and there is times when it cannont be heard nor detected with the knock sensor alone.
give me your opinions.

i use this, but with the hose taken off the end and slide over a pics of metal 3/8s brake line, flatten on one end and bolted to the back of the head.

home depot sells the harder type of hose. i use the clear plasticy type, so that i can drive around with the stethoscope on listening to everything thats going on.
you can pretty planely hear any detonation and don't have to worry about electronics. i got the idea from the innovate board. the klausguy there says that some of the high end race teams use something this simple as this on the dyno to listen to stuff.

anyways, i just thought i would ask.
Thanks for your link there, that is a cool idea as well and much easier to make.
Have you ever datalogged and detected detonation that the knock sensor did not catch i the knock counts?
anybody esle want to post their expiriences with det cans, feel free!
Re: "Det Cans" Why does noone use them?
nah, i only use it on my blower car and that only started because the knock sensor gets a ton of faluse knock. so i had to disable it. i've heard it rattle before using this setup and got out of it quickly. so i think its helped me.
the n/a car i'm tuning right now isn't far enough along to worry about knock yet. i can't even get normal driving right haha. i may use it later but its not going to be an on the edge tune anyways. just daily drivable.

You can listen to the knock sensor signal with headphones and hear more than you can with a det can too.
