V6 to V8TPI - Bin Change Verification

OK, so I have read and read and think I have things set, but am hoping to get some verification before I put this in place. I know this is a lot of info, but if anyone happens to go through this and finds anything where I should have done something differently, I would greatly appreciate some good input.

Here is the background:

Original car is 1991 V6 Manual Camaro. I have installed a 1985 305 TPI and accompanying v8-designed T5. In the process of swapping, I am going with a SD setup. I kept the V6 computer but bought an AXXB (91 305 TPI Auto) MEMCAL for the limp-home side, but will use a G1 with a custom chip for the bin. From a wiring point of view, the car is wired as if it were a 90-92 TPI.

The new engine was missing most emission equipment, so for now I am trying to get it running without errors without it. Also, for now, I am just trying to get a stock running tune with the chip that does not error out for the emissions stuff - nothing fancy.

So - Using TunerCat, I have created a BIN with the following changes from the original:
Starting BIN: AXXD (1991 305 TPI Manual)

Changes to BIN:
No EGR
· EGR Diagnostic (Error 32) – Unchecked
· Minimum MA for EGR Enable – 255 Counts
· EGR Diagnostic Minimum Vehicle Speed – 255MPH
No A.I.R.
· AIR Divert Enable Coolant Temp. 150.75 Deg C
180 Degree Thermostat
· Fan 1 Off 87.5 C
· Fan 1 On 93.0 C
Just for Fun
· Fuel Cut Off Speed – 255MPH
· Fuel Resume Speed – 254MPH
So thanks for reading this far Anyway, I should have the last few items and be ready to start trying to crank this thing in the next week or so. Let me know if you think that any of these settings are wrong, if others are needed, or if there is a better starting BIN for this setup.

Thanks again & have a great day!

I believe(?) you need to address:

Are you starting with known stock .bin?
base pulse constant should be OK but verify.
do you have a charcoal canister functional? If not, I believe you need to uncheck that.

Something tells me you need a correct knock sensor and ign module.

Thank you for the reply

I pulled the bin off of the DIY-EFI.org web site. It did not indicate that the file had been modified. Given than the speed limiter was still set, I would think that it was stock, but can not be completely sure. Is there any way to tell for sure?

Thanks for the tip on the base pulse constant - I checked and it is good.

As far as the charcoal canister, I do have it functional, so should be ok there.

I checked a few parts places and the knock sensor for the 90-92 V6 had the same part number as the 90-92 TPI, so I pulled the V6 sensor and put it on the new motor.

I will look into the ignition module - I had not even thought to verify functionality since the wiring matched up perfectly.

Thanks so much for the great suggestions

So I am trying the same thing. I am doing a complete swapout. I have a 90 Camaro R/S. With a V6. I am swapping it for a 92 350 IROC TPI with trans. My question is can I use the electrical harness and ECM from the V6 or do I need to swapout and replace with harness and ECM from IROC?

Welcome to thirdgen.org. If your v6 ECM identification number ends in 730, you can use it on the 350, but you must remove the 350 chip and run it in the car. You'll have to swap the harness as well. Check out the engine swap boards, read the stickies at the top, they cover a lot of info, and be sure to use the search feature, because what you are attempting has been covered numerous times.

Re: V6 to V8TPI - Bin Change Verification

I just posted some info on this in another thread...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...ml#post4549913

Just to finish things out from my original post, the settings were good and the car cranked/ran on the first shot.
