IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, thanks to my buddy, oldschoolwrench, we figured out how to get the car running on the stock AUJP(vats disabled), and I drove it up and down his road. Car ran and shifted normally. Now I have to get tabs and insurance on it again, and the datalogging and fine tuning can begin, although I know I'm just barely stepping into this world. At least it fires up and runs like it did before I started this journey.

YYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, thats the LAST thing I need. Too many cars as it is.

Question to all experienced tuners- I've searched and can't see how I make changes to the BIN for the taller rear gears in the wagon. I'd like this (and other) parameters set before I dream of adjusting the VE. Should I assume I will be adjusting the way the VSS reads for difference?

Thanks

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats not what I'm asking. Is there something in the chip tune that is affected by a 2.73 rear gear vs. whatever comes stock in the F-body? My speedo seems to be fine.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, i believe its in Scalars.
look for "VSS, Vehicle Speed Sensor Pulses" or something similar.

there is another setting, "VSS Filter Coefficient" you shouldn't need to change it.
there is also VSS Instrument Panel Divisor, you shouldn't need to mess with
it either.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your speedo is reading accurately, then no, there is nothing you need to mess with in the bin.

Just start datalogging and tuning

enjoy

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in my previous post i used TunerPro V5 with SAUJP_V4 def file to look up
what/where to make the changes to.

for this post i used TunerPro 4 with Super_8dm2.

without a good speed signal to the ECM, it will stay in cell 4, the TCC and
EGR won't work.
there may also be problems with stalling when coming to a stop.
with the 7730 ECM and AUJP, the speed sensor inputs to the ECM.
on the Caprice the speed sensor goes to a speed buffer.
so the speedometer should read right but the ECM can't understand the signal from the buffer.
but this isn't a problem, with the Super_8dm def file, look in
"Flags/Switches" and find Switch 18, bit 6 -VSS and uncheck it. that should
let the ECM use the input from the speed buffer.
if the speed the ECM shows is pretty close to what the speedomete shows,
you should be good.
if it doesn't, with the same def file, look in Constants/ Scalars and find
Vehicle Speed Sensor. thats the pulses per mile setting, move it up or down
to adjust what the ECM shows in the data log.

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We unchecked switch 18, bit 6. Our current VSS value is 4009.96. The VSS inst panel pulse divisor is at 0.00. My speedo is mechanical- the only electrical input/output from the trans is for TC lock. I'm assuming I have a magnetic speed sensor, being a 91. So if I'm understanding correctly, I should be able to determine what my VSS PPM should be for my particular set up by putting the car on jacks, running/stabilizing it to a given MPH, indicated on the cars dash, datalog what MPH the ecm is reading, and mathematically figure out what the difference is and change the VSS value accordingly. Sound reasonable, or am I all wet?

This is very cool. Learning this stuff is really interesting. Long way to go......

Re: IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm back again.... Been driving the car as it was in the last post. CRAP mileage, and I believe we dropped the pulse width on the injectors on the first tune (Can't remember why at this point). I replaced exh man gaskets and noticed very dry surfaces (no real sign of combustion) on a few of the exhaust ports. Car is a slug, but doesnt feel like its missing. In the last post, its mentioned that I'll get no TC lock-up or EGR, which would be a contributor to my mileage(or lack there-of), as well as if the car is pushing a few cylinders that aren't creating power.... Winter is here... hope to get some time in on it...

I think I was at the point where I couldn't get the datalogging to work. I got some info, but nothing to help me decide which direction to go. Then, other stuff came up.....
