New stall - adjust TCC lock value?

I put a higher stall (2050) into my 89 5.7 GTA. OEM converter was <1500 RPM.
  • First question: Is it better to use RPM or MPH as the basis for TCC lockup? The 6E xdf has MPH.
  • Second: Should the lockup settings occur earlier or later with the new converter
Many newb thanks

Re: New stall - adjust TCC lock value?

I put in a 2500 stall and feel that the car doesn't shift that properly from 1-2.. I set the lockup at 45MPH but that's way too early IMO.. I need to set it back up to something like 50 to 55 MPH.. I know this doesn't answer your question tho.. :/

hellz wingz

How is ur your ride coming. I have questions about your setup?

I would imagine the TCC is based on RPM,TPS and Mileage since it will vary based on the load of the engine?

I personally don't like the tcc to lock at a lower speed and prefer to have tcc set around 50-55mph. If your after fuel economy bin stack and do two different tunes or you can always get the tcc to unlock off tps settings.

Re: New stall - adjust TCC lock value?

jcuff: Ok sure ask away.. PM me if unrelated to this thread.

Tuned: I will set mine back up to that because sometimes I am driving and have noticed that it kicks in too early (ex: speed up on an onramp to get on the highway...) and then I increase throttle and it unlocks.

Any way of tuning the 1-2 shift or is that purely mechanical in the tranny?

1-2 is set by the governor, you can get a recalibration kit and adjust the springs & weights but I found that I had to mess with the flyweights on the outside of the governor to get 1-2 where I wanted. But I have an extremely light/unusual combo so you might not need to.
