4l60e Tuning

Looking to get some 4l60e tuning opinions; and hopefully a thread that can be referenced in the future as a point of reference for tuning. This is my first time tuning a transmission so if you see something do not hesitate to ask or give an opinion.

Sorry not a Third-Gen, but this is a great forum for tuning with a lot of knowledgeable individuals. I have read through many threads and cannot find very many that have a good info on tuning a modified 4l60e mostly on fixing problems. I have a C1500, 5.7, TBI with Whipple 2.3 forced induction. I have approximately 425hp and 500 ft*lbs going off of a couple dyno tuning sessions that I had when it was not running 100%. The power should go up from there when I get it to the 10 psi that I built the engine for from the current 5 psi. I still need to work on the timing of my shift points in normal driving conditions, but it is close for my liking. I would like to increase the firmness of the shift at WOT, but leave smoother shift in normal driving. I upgraded my transmission with the following mods when it had less than 8000 miles on a complete stock overhaul.
4L60E 1994 model
• Pro-Built Automatics Pro Street Performance Upgrade kit
o HD steel sleeve & steel forward piston to the input drum
o Street/Strip Borg Warner Hi-Energy 9 clutch 3-4 pack
o "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit
o Transgo .500 boost valve
o Trans-Go Hi-Rev 3-4 & forward clutch spring kit to the input drum
o Sealed Power "Beast" sunshell
o Trans-Go steel rings and Hi-rpm priming spring added to the front pump, 10 vane pump.
• Sonnax Super 2nd servo
• Sonnax Super hold 4th Servo
• Alto Carbon Fiber 2-4 band.
• Overrun 2-3 Shift Valve
• Sonnax Reverse Abuse Valve Kit
• Turbulator Low/Reverse & Reverse Input Low Drag Steels
• Dual cage front sprag
• Front & Rear 5 pinion Planetary
• Case saver plate
• Vigilante Convertor 2500 Stall
10 bolt 3.73:1 Posi will be upgraded to 14 bolt this winter. (still looking for one)
285/45/22 tires plan to go with 305/40/22 in the spring. Plan to put a set of slicks on to see what it can do for 1/4 ET once everything is running right.

There is a line pressure gauge in the cab of the truck that is about 120 psi @ cruising and 235 psi @ WOT. I am using TunerPro to tune my transmission. I have included my $0D mask BIN, all adaptive tuning and shift times have been zeroed. The XDF file only has transmission options, because I am using the EBL for engine controls, The ADX file is also primarily set up for transmission tuning.

I have included two spreadsheet that I have altered from other individuals. One is for setting shift and TCC points and the other is to determine RPM based on: transmission, tires, and rear-end ratio.
Please provide feedback on options to get a firmer WOT shift and any mistakes that I may have made? Let me know any questions you have?

Re: 4l60e Tuning

Not sure how much input you will get, not many here have tuned or posted about E transmission tuning. IIRC, Dimented24x7 has, try a search on this board with his user name. May find some decent info.

RBob.

Re: 4l60e Tuning

Thanks for the input Rob, I did not find any posts from Dimented24x7 on 4l60e, but I have made considerable progress with on the tune; by trying different setting and many google searches.

Re: 4l60e Tuning

There's some really good info although OBDII related, most of it is valid with the OBDI 4l60E as well... here:
