Big vs Small cap distributor and timing

My corvette use a big cap HEI dis:

So the distance between the "pins" inside the cap should be greater vs a small cap dis with external coil?

Is this reflected in the bin file ?
My 1991 corvette has crazy amount of part time / crusing spark advance, around 46.
On a camaro same year, same TPI but with a small cap dis with external coil, the timing is not even close that at the same MAP/RPM.

Is that why, or am I thinking totally wrong here..

Cheers
