New EBL P4 problem code 51

I have been using a EBL P4 for many years without issue on a SBC 400 with SD setup. I now have a new SBC 350 with SD and a new EBL P4 board, both setup are using the '727 corvette type GM computer. I have loaded the bin from my 400 into my 350 setup in the #7 bank, loaded and verified O.K. when I key off then on again with bank 7 active I get code 51, with cooling fans on. If I select a different bank, say 6 all is well, except I have no idea what is loaded in bank 6, whatever it came with new. I tried a bin from the CD that came with the EBL, same results.
So it seems like it doesn't like the bin mask even though everything is the same hardware wise. Must be something simple, I'm just not sure what?
Another odd thing I noticed, when I move my laptop from one vehicle to another I just disconnect the USB cable from the laptop that is connected to the EBL then reconnect the usb from the new vehicle to the same port but there is no connection (spinning clock) I have to switch comm ports from 3 to 4 or vice versa.
So this is a brand new engine, never been run, new wiring, computer, EBL P4 board. Anything is possible.
Ideas?

The older P4 ECM firmware and BINs are not compatible with the newer firmware. This is version 1.0 & 1.1 versus version 1.2, if your original EBL P4 is using one of the earlier versions that is what is causing code 51. With a running engine the EBL ECM firmware version is shown at the bottom of the main WUD display.

You can get the update program from our web site to update the older ECM. Can also use it to convert a BIN(s) from the older version to the latest.

As delivered all banks have the base BIN in them. Just the PromID is different, that is done for testing purposes.

This is normal. The USB cables have a serial number embedded in them. The O/S uses this serial number to differentiate between the cables. This way each cable is assigned it's own comm port. And is the same comm port each and every time.

Prior to serial numbering the cable the O/S would assign the com port dependent upon which USB port on the laptop was used. And even then the port could be changed by the whim of the O/S.

A work around for this is to create another folder for the new vehicle. Place the WUD in it along with a separate shortcut on the desktop. Then fire up the WUD that corresponds to the vehicle is use.

Re: New EBL P4 problem code 51

So why does the bin that is on the CD sent with the EBL not work? Is it because I modified it with TunerPro first (changed the injector flow rate) before loading it in the new EBL? Leaving the older EBL out of the mix, where do I get a bin to start with that will work on the new EBL? To make both EBL's work with the same bin programming all I need to do is upgrade the old EBL with software from your web site?
This must have something to do with the check sum that used to give us issues before.

Thanks!

It is possible that you grabbed the wrong BIN when you flashed the ECM.

Read the BIN from bank 0 of the new ECM. Then flash it into bank 7. If that clears up the code 51 and flashing SES/CEL, then we know the ECM is OK.

Grab a data log from the old ECM and do a playback in the WUD. After the engine has been running for a few seconds the firmware version will be shown. If it is V 1.0 or 1.1, then this is what caused code 51 in the new ECM. In this case, yes, you can update the ECM firmware to V 1.2. Which should be the same as the new ECM firmware.

Re: New EBL P4 problem code 51

O.K. all is well with the world again, at least my little part of it! Upgraded old EBL, loaded correct bin in new EBL, I did load a bin from the older EBL P4 CD that caused the code 51. All my fault, but now I know.
Also tried the TunerPro editor and loaded a .bin on the new system, worked fine.
Thanks for the great customer service, as always.
