Anyone have a "chip" number (not a GM number)??

I was wondering if there was some kind of number on the actual PROM chip besides a GM number. I am wondering because my dad's friend works for some computer company that orders these kind of chips all the time, and he could get me the chip if I had a number. Anybody know? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on what computer you have.. you are looking for these

86-89 (or 90..I Believe these are the years) takes a 27C128
90 or 91-92 takes a 27C256

Texas Inst., AMD, Intel, STS, Thompson all manafacture this chip.

And is this the same chip that you load into the PROM programmer? Thanks for the reply.

Yes, these eproms can be reprogrammed with the "prom burner" like the Pocket Programmer.

And to clear eprom "types":

86-89 MAF TPI cars used the 27C128 28-DIP
90-92 SD TPI cars used the 27C256 28-DIP

The MAF cars can actually use a 27C256 eprom, but the bin has to put on the top half.

And BOTH MAF & SD can use the Atmel AT29C256 Flash Prom. You just write onto it as you would write onto a 27C256. In fact, you can read an AT29C256 as a 27C256 or a 27C128 - but to write you need to program it as an AT29C256.

Typo on the top there.. 86-89 MAF TPI cars used the 27C126 28-DIP. That's 27C128.. Don't want the poor guy to get confused

Thanks, I've corrected the typo message. At least I typed the correct number (27C128) later in my post, so I hope not too many people got confused.
