Quick Moates software question

Does the 10K resistor need to be connected all the time? I used it to get the initial connection but as soon as i take the car for a spin the data locks up. I am not sure if its my laptop or if i need the resistor there all the time.

As far as i know the resistor is used only to initiate the ALDL mode. Once your ECM enters it you can remove the resistor.

That how it works on my car.

Good Luck!

Check the bit that stands for "8192 mode lock" or something like that(I forget which byte it is in). Once 8192 is locked(bit = 1), you should be able to pull the resistor. That is how it works on mine.

Correct. Removable once link established. You'll need it the next go-around though. And once link is established, the performance & behavior is invariant regardless of whether resistor is in place or not.
