Direct Scan question

www.chuengineering.com
I e-mailed him a while ago and he replied saying that if it's just a software change it could be done easily. So now I'd like to know if there are differen't pin outs on the edge card of the 8746 compared to the 7148 (GNs ecm).
Does anybody know anything about the differences between these ecms? BTW, if you don't know the 8746, it's practically a 7747, same board and parts.

I don't think attaching to the edge connector would help all that much. The data the ECM spits out mainly comes from internal memory and not from the PROM. This requires a major rewrite of the PROM code.
Or maybe I misunderstood what is trying to be done here.
Cheers,

By using the edge card connector, you can access all 256 RAM locations, that the ecm is using. It has nothing to do with the ALDL stream, you're looking at the processor.

That is right. Now you have to write code that dumps the internal memory to bus. Or are you saying that the processor dumps the data to the pins when it reads from anything internal? I didn't know Mortorola chips did this. So, if I do a read from internal data to accumulator A, the data is dumped onto the external bus also.

If a code change is considered easy, then why not use the existing hardware and try increasing the rate on the ALDL line. See what it's max baudrate is.
Or you could go edge connector and wait for random read accesses to the locations of interest. Wow, I see a lot of PC code needed to be written and some hardware cooked up. Is it worth it?
What you this gain? I am not trying to be sarcastic here. I really just don't understand.
Thanks,
J
