it lives....
Well finally got the Malibu fired today..cranked er over and she sputtered then fired up..and died..lol The battery needs a good charging (its been sitting to long), and I'll try her again tomorrow. Do have a couple questions....
1) the '730 uses the purple/yellow vss wires directly into the ECM. the '749 uses the brown wire from a DRAC. can I either wire it directly like a '730 or do I need to wire in the "yellow" 4 pulse box I have from the 88 GTA?
2) I'm guessing the '749 won't mind running the fans instead of the CAC pump, figure it won't care what relay it triggers, anyone try this?
3) also the syclone doesnt show a canister purge output. can I wire one in using the '730 location?
will post more tomorrow, hopefully I will get it running and link up some data..like is it the ECM or the limp mode..hehe
cheers, Bob

cheers, Bob Bob,
Here is a comparison of the differences between a 'Maro & a Sunbird. I dont see any reason why you cant just use the VSS with the 749 & change the bit in the firmware to use VSS, instead of the DRAC.
I think that you will be able to get away with running the Fans, via the CAC output, I think that they are both run off of the Engine temp, so I dont see any reason why not.
I dont think though, that you are going to get away with trying to run the Canister purge. even if you wire it to the proper output on the ECM, there is no code in the Sy/Ty firmware to operate it.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Thanks Bob, your list matches my notes. one hurdle jumped..lol As far as the canister purge, didn't think about the code not being there, didn't look really, and its fine with me to lose the thing
Well the battery getting charged, have to see if it will have any guts left in it or its off to advanced auto..home to the mindless counter troll.
will keep updating.. cheers, Bob

coming of the green
well the battery took a charge, but I'm gonna get a fresh one to replace it. After a few attempts the Malibu fired and ran, and whilst I'm sitting in the seat grinning from ear to ear and revving it to 2G, I notice antifreeze pouring all over the intake..
Once I get the Bu off the stands and out into the driveway and clean up the green..(Happy St. Paddies Day) and find out what the h3ll I missed...cheers, Bob
EDIT: missed loose clamp on the throttle bypass hose.

oh..poured over my notes and emails I have collected and I should be able to use the vss inputs with the byte changed.
oh, this might be silly but after studying wiring diagrams and getting this beast all sorted out I am a bit frazzled. With the 1 BAR option (n/a) do I use the 2 BAR MAP sensor or do I use the 1 BAR from the '730.
For grins...this is a layout of the various harnesses in the car..
Front Lighting Harness - 80 Malibu
Engine Harness - 88 GTA
ECM Harness - 88 GTA
C100 Bulkhead - 88 GTA
Dash Harness - 87 Monte SS
Intermediate Harness - 88 GTA
Rear Lighting Harness - 88 GTA
Its been fun rewiring the thing, I know everywire by heart...

I think that you have two choices, put the 1 bar sensor on & set the bit to 1 bar. or put the 2 bar sensor in it & set the bit to 2 bar. I dont see any benifit to using the 1 bar @ all. you are after all going to see 2 bar (hopefully) of pressure & you are going to have to tune that thing in. Why not set it to 2 bar & call it a day?
