pro/cons of burning chips vs aftermarket computers?
Im just wondering if anyone has any input as far as cost effectiveness ease of tuning etc etc of either burning your own chips or installing a computer such as the haltech or the accel DFI system Ive been doing some reading on the burning, and from the use of the tunercat site it seems if you burn enough chips youll spend more than what an ECM will cost.
thanks

i was looking at either burning my own vs having a custom chip burned for me. I spoke to a well known chip burner and as soon as i startrd asking questions...he wanted nothing to do with me! I havve found that most chip makers only add a little to the fuel & timming curves..,.& thats it. Theres a lot to learn and gain here!

In a full out drag car you MIGHT be ahead with an aftermarket ecm.
Trouble is they are borderline too simple. Which in some cases makes for a absolute PITA for a street car. I have yet to hear of an aftermarket ecm that reflects 5% of the engineering of a GM.
And the notion of one failing 300 miles from home is scarey.
