Advice

I am seeking the advice and opinions of anyone who has knowledge of gm efi and prom burning. I am new to the efi game and am seeking advice for my first venture in the TPI game. I have been a long time car guy and have always had chevys. All of my previous hobby rides were carbed and pre 1976 vehicles. Until the purchase of my 92 Z28 the newest thing i ever owned was an 85 S-10 used soley for transportation.

I am considering replaceing the 305 in my Z with a 383 that has been throughy gone through. All forged rotating assembly, AFR 190 heads, 10.5:1 comp ratio, 218/228 Comp Cam.

My questions are these. I want to get into burning my own chips and have read Trax's article on beginning. I have since read and visited many websites about DIY EPROM burning and efi in general. I am wondering if using my stock 305 TPI chip as a basis is a good idea? Or should I locate a 350 chip? I plan to run 30# injectors and a SuperRam setup with Hooker LTs headers. THe car is a five speed with 3.73 posi rear. I honestly don't know how different the 305 and 350 chips would be. I just want you guys with the experience to help get me started in the right direction. Any and all responses will be appreciated. Thanks yall!!

If you are using a manual, then the 305 would be the better base since there is no manual 350 F-body BIN.

All you do is adjust the Cylinder Volume to correspond to 383 and the Injector Size to 30#. Obviously the VE tables are going to be all different depending on intake, heads and cam.

Thank you. THat saves me from having to buy another chip. Now i just need to get the equipment and I'm all set. When i get the new engine in the car and get some practice burning chips I'm sure I'll have some more questions. Since GM did not make 350s with manuals does that imply that the stock settings on 305/manual chips may be more aggressive?

Get the stuff now, and start experimenting on the 305 would be my advise. There are alot of little details that take time to learn, and they are easy to see/feel on a stock engine (well most are).

You can figure out all the personal driving stuff, and that's what can make a chip so much fun

I would definatly get the equipment now and mess around with the 305 before you put the 383 in. Having just started my 383 a couple of weeks ago and having to replace the plugs/O2 myself, without thinking the VE tables would have been that rich...
