Not much info out there on the 93 Z28s, eh??

I have been looking all day and I can only find stuff about 3rd gens and some on trucks. Not very much on 93s. I don't know if I should keep looking or just pay someone to do it for me. I might try to find some bin files and borrow the hardware.

Don't know???

What do you 3rd gen guys think? I might be able to get who ever does my engine work this summer to "dyno tune" a chip for my car. It will be less of a headacke, but I will have to pay lots of $$ on an already tight budget.

Oh yea, I did several searches on here including the Newbie search and I read that beginner guide up on top too.

Am I missing something here or do I just have an oddball car?

1) This is a Thirdgen Site, so you have to expect that we cater to Thirdgens and not Fourth Gens.

2) Your car uses a Memcal just like late model SD 3rd Gens.

3) If you have read Traxion's Intro, you would have seen the links for TunerCat which DO have a TDF for your particular car.

4) The concepts of "tuning" are the same and the methodology of burning is identical to an SD 3rd Gen. You'd also probably want to use an AT29C256 Flash Prom like many of us use.

But realize that this "DIY" which means "Do It Yourself". All the information you need to burn eproms for your 93 is within the "old posts", but this is a "3rd Gen Site" so most of the discussion is around SD, MAF or TBI 3rd Gens. But if a person IS a "DIYer", then they should have NO PROBLEM adapting the information to an early model 4th Gen, especially information relating to the later model SD 3rd Gens, which yours is quite similar to (though not the same).

I strongly suggest using the "search" feature on AT29C256s (or 29C256) and reading many of the old posts. Also, scope out Tunercat for the TDF for your car. If you read some of the older posts, you will learn where you can find a copy of your BIN for your car and if you "talk nicely" to TunerCat they may flip you an older copy of your particular TDF for your car for "evalutation purposes".

But make sure you realize that this is primarily a 3rd Gen Site and the first part of the Board is "DIY" meaning "Do-It-Yourself". But we will try and guide you as much as possible.

After you get the difinition file it is just like tuning anything else, VERY simalar to the 90-92 speed density cars. I would buy the tc defintion file, tc and download some free datalogging software. Freescan supports 93's, and as the name inplies it is free. It allows you to datalog and such as well, plus it has a nifty "virtual dashboard display" that some folks think is cool. I have a 3rd gen and a 4th gen, and freescan is what most of the fourth gen people use (for free that is).

Thanks guys, I am gonna keep an eye out for stuff on this oddball car. And I know it is a 3rd gen site, but I was just looking for some quick info on my 93; there is no reason to spend hours trying to find a site if someone can tell me in 3 minutes. Yall have your info, and it's readily available since this is a 3rd gen site! So I am hoping yall don't mind a few questions about my 93 car over the next few months. And I have done some searches and they haven't really turned up much, but I will keep trying with different key words and combos. I plan on surfing the net trying to find this stuff as well.
I am hoping that posts like this don't take up too much bandwidth or cause clutter . Because I am getting the feeling that is what some of the people on this board think.
Hopefully I can get some help from this forum, because I am always willing to give it to 3rd gen guys over at camaroZ28.com. The more I learn the more I can help. From now on I am going to make the least posts possible and with the most specific questions as possible .

Thanks again for the advice.

It's still SD, so your lessons learned from the guys tuning 90-92's should be fruitful.

It's still a 700-R4 / 4L60 non electronic tranny; the ECM only controls lockup and may have input from a 4th gear pressure switch or something simple like that.

It still has a separate PROM.

Don't let the "no one else has a car like me" attitude faze ya. I wish I could help you more.

Yea, popups are a byatch. Tools, internet options then secutity and ristricted sites will block that crap out!
Thanks for the help, I still think this is the best site in the world of DIY Prom. So I will still be back here asking some questions.
I think my 93 is a mix between 3rd(tuning) and 4th gen over all, hopfully this site will do me some good .

Thanks for the help.

Tuning of your VE Tables follows the same principles as 90-92 SD F-bodies.

Go here --> https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...806#post618806

That link will get you started in a BIG WAY as many people's FEAR of SD is with the VE Tables. Trust me, VE Tables are VERY EASY TO TUNE. And if you are fanatical enough to tune them for "elevation and ambient air temp" you will find yourself running "128/128" in all weather and all elevation, with little or no variations.

I also encourage you to read all the old posts. There has been a LOT discussed in the last two years that this board has been online. I guarantee there will be things that you never thought of.
