static shock

I just got my 92 RS on Thursday. I don't have a manual yet. Has anyone experienced a static shock closing the door after parking and shutting off the engine? Any starting point would be appreciated.

Every car that I have owned with cloth interior. EVERY one! The only remedy that I have found is to touch the key to the car as you are getting out, which should "ground" you.

static shock

This is the 1st time I ever experienced this. I've been driving a 91 S10 Blazer for 9 years. Our 89 Z24 didn't do this either., Both Chevies,both cloth interiors. Anyway, thanks. I'm just hopind=g it's not a symptom of something expensive.

I have the cloth interior as well, and let me tell you, its a hell of a lot worse when you have aftermarket cloth seat covers too! I think I actually saw the spark one night! Try closeing your door with your elbow, it still shocks but not as bad as a finger tip. And one more thing, be careful at the gas station! Don't get back in your car while pumping gas or when you get out, spark, boom, blood, guts, spit, and *** go everywhere!

ROFL, that would be pretty crazy to be blown up from a cloth spark, but hey it can really happen.

Touch something metal as you are getting out of the car. If what you are talking about is getting shocked after getting out of the car and touching something metal this will solve it. This way the charge is leaked over a longer time instead of one painful burst. I usually grab the roof or a metal portion of the door before I get out. Then after I am out of the car I let go. No static shock. Humidity has a great deal to do with static electricity. So people's experience with static electricity can vary greatly.
