rear hatch SECURITY

since my prior system was stolen out of my camaro in june by breaking my side window and hitting the trunk release button to open it, i was wondering if there was a way to have the button rigged so it only works like the window switches when the car is in the on position? i don't like the way gm has that set up. i had a 97 rs convertible, and the same thing for the trunk, the button worked with the car off to pop the trunk.

The older GM power trunks were very simple and you could easily rewire them any way you wanted. Some of the newer thirdgens use a separate relay to control the trunk pop. Either way, it should be VERY easy to fix this. If you have a testlight or voltmeter, I'll tell you how to determine which type of switch you have.
