computer might be fried???

Well, I just found out that my computer might be fried, and that's why my cars been running like crap for the past week, with high idle, dieseling and all kinds of stuff. My question is, what if it is fried?? Is my only option to buy a new one for like $600+?? I live in cali so I have to have ALL smog stuff, is there a way to disconnect it so I can at least drive my baby till I get the money to buy a new one?? Any opinions, suggestions, or comments would be VERY helpful and appreciated, thanks!

I have just found a cross-referencing site of the various ECMs used in GM cars and trucks from 1986-1995.

If your 1986 IROC has the 5.0 TPI, it uses the 1227165 ECM. Other cars and trucks that also used your ECM are as follows"
1) 1986 2.0 L4 TPI Engine vin code "P" LQ5 w/MT
2) 86-89 5.0 TPI "F" LB9 F-body
3) 87-89 5.7 TPI "8" L98 F-body
4) 87-91 Truck 2.5 L4 TBI "E" LN8
5) 1991 Truck 2.5 L4 TBI "A" L38

The only thing different is the PROM. I bet that if you went to a wrecking yard and got the ECM out of one of the 4 bangers, that you could get it dirt cheap.

Just double check the Engine VIN code in the 8th digit to the engine code I've supplied to ensure you got the right vehicle.
