heater fan only works at one speed

it is starting to get really cold here, so i would like to get my heater to work properly. right now, it wont switch speeds. it only stays on the lowest one. i have replaced the actual fan, and the heater control switch. so far, no luck. what should i do, when it rains its hard to see cuz the defroster doesnt work properly.

thanks

daniel

The 3 low speed positions of the switch route power from the 20 ampere HTR-A/C fuse through the selector switch & the speed control switch to the blower resistors - located in the air box, near the blower, under the hood. When the switch is in the high speed position, the blower relay, near the blower motor, under the hood, is powered & applies power directly from a fusible link connected to the large lug on the starter to the blower motor. With the ignition turned off, try powering the blower relay coil by connecting a wire from the + terminal of the battery to the orange wire on the blower relay. That should run the fan at high speed. If it does not run at high speed, check the purple wire running from the relay & resistors to the motor & check the ground connection from the chassis to the blower motor - if either wire is loose, or intermittant, the blower motor will operate as you have described.
