while taking apart my dash to get to the headlight switch I saw this and was wondering what was it.

box pictured above is the relay/timer assembly for the rear window defogger.
if you're disassembling the dash in an attempt to fix nonfunctional dashlights in your bird, take a look at this page first:

I know that's a firebird above & all but, the harness I took out of an '86 camaro, that black box was hooked up to the cruise control (via the ECM harness) & the timer for the rear defog is built into the switch. My '87 bird has cruise as well & has the same box (I've popped both of them open just out of curiousity). My '84 camaro w/o cruise doesn't have it.
