Gauges.......help please!

hi
i have a 1984 Trans am came stock with the 305 H.O. w/ Q-jet carb. i am removing the engine and putting a ZZ4 in, running the ZZ4 off a vaccum advance distributor.....my question is, how will this effect my gauges? will they still work without the ECU ? or what? im lost here, and would like to know what will happen to the gauges when i remove the computer......will they all quit working? will i have to rewire something? help!! Talking about a PITA !!

gauges will work fine they do not run thru the computer but to their own individual sensors. However your SES light will be on all the time, may want to pull that bulb. FYI wires coming from Passenger side harness are for the puter, drivers side harness are your gauges and such.

so you are saying that the speedo, tach, temperature gauge, volt gauge, gas gauge & oil pressure gauge dont have anything to do with the computer? none of the sending units or wires pass through the ECU ?

None of them have anything to do with the puter.

Tach runs off the distributor
Speedo on an 84 is mechanical (cable driven)
All others have their own sensors.

I tore the computer out of my 85 TA so I know for a fact they are not connected.

If your H.O. has an auto trans, you will need something to control the TC lockup, if you want it to function.
