fan wiring need help!! plz read

ok i re wired my fans last year before i started coming to this site so anyways i know now that u can buy different cooling fan sensors to turn on when u want them on but what i did was rewire the fans into a switch and my switch in the dash keeps getting really hot so put a fuse in between the switch and the fuse box where i have my power wire going to.. someone told me i could put a resister or a relay on to the wire so that it wouldnt blow the fuse or all the power wouldnt go right to the switch does ny one have a part number for a resister or a relay that would work? and if any one can tell me how to wire it in that would be great thanks for all the help!!

You are trying to run all the amperage the fans draw through your little dash switch which is turning into the heating element on your soldering iron. You can cause a fire and melt lots of wire doing this.

You must always use a relay when wiring high draw components like cooling fans, unless you are using large gauge wire and a toggle the size of Texas.

You fan wiring should go kinda like this:

If you have the stock wiring, wire your switch to the ground wire of the relay (the little light blue or green one) so that when you turn on the switch, it grounds the circuit and activates the relay.

If you dont have the stock fan wiring in place...
- Red + wires of your fans are connected directly to the battery with fusible links.

- Black - wires of your fans go to a fan relay (each fan has it's own, and you will have to look at the relay instructions for wiring).

- Your switch in the dash is wired to the relay, and only activates the RELAY, not the fans.... The relay is there to do the hard work which is passing the current through itself to complete the ground and turn on the fans. You can also wire the relay to an aftermarket, or stock temperature switch in your heads to automatically activate the relay at the desired temp.
